Lafayette Park holds claim as not only St. Louis’ oldest Park but one of the first Parks west of the Mississippi. The 29.95 acre park is located in the Lafayette Square neighborhood and was named in honor of the Marques de Lafayette (1757-1834), a French statesman who served as a volunteer under General George Washington in the Continental Army during the American Revolution. In 1972, Lafayette Square was declared a historic district by Saint Louis.

Trail & Park Amenities: Lafayette Park has a few walking and biking trails, a duck pond with fountain, children’s playground, various decorative plantings, and a gazebo that can be rented for picnics and events.
