Eye diseases. Tracking hereditary eye diseases in purebred dogs.
Drug sensitivity. Certain drugs used for dogs (ivermectin and loperamide) build up over time and can cause neurological problems: seizures, erratic behavior, panic reactions, aggression, biting, etc. Commonly affected breeds are Australian Shepherd, Australian Shepherd (Mini), Collie, Long-haired Whippet McNab, Silken Windhound. But mix breeds can also be at risk. Get your dog tested.
Heat stroke. Recognize the symptoms.
Hot surfaces can harm. When the temperature is very high, don’t let your dog linger on hot surfaces. Being so close to the ground, your pooch’s body can heat up quickly and sensitive paw pads can burn. Keep walks short (during these times). Preferred walk times are early morning or the cool of evening. Stay in the shade. Vary surfaces by moving on and then off of grass or lawns as much as possible, to minimize constant exposure to radiant heat.
Massage technique. The Tellington TTouch is a specialized approach to the care and training of our animal companions. Developed by internationally recognized animal expert, Linda Tellington-Jones, PhD (Hon), this method based on cooperation and respect offers a positive approach to training, can improve performance and health and presents solutions to common behavioral and physical problems. It also helps establish a deeper rapport between humans and animals through increased understanding and more effective communication.
Poop health. It matters.
Potty issues. Peeing pooping indoors. If your pet dog is doing their business inside, clean all the soiled areas with a good odor remover product designed to eliminate their personal smell. As long as your pet can smell their own scent, they will return to and reuse the accident zone. Try Nature’s Miracle products. Then redo the potty training process which may take a week or more. It took time to build the bad habit and will take time to replace it with a new acceptable behavior.
